As a Project Archivist, I developed the following: Archival Processing Guide, Digitization Guide and Preservation Guide for future interns, staff and volunteers to maintain the artist-run centre’s archival collection. I processed their programming & operations collection at file-level and their multimedia collection at item-level. I also assisted local researchers and curators by retrieving and digitizing archival materials.

I completed my 6-month residency at the OC & SEAA as a Research Fellow where I accessioned and processed a variety of photographic materials related to the Vietnamese diaspora. This included various sized albums, 35mm slides, 35mm negatives, colour and black and white prints. I also assisted the Curator by retrieving archival materials for undergraduate class presentations and for potential film and research projects. Moreover, I digitized 5 photograph albums and 1 pocket diary which can be viewed on Calisphere.

As an Archiving Intern, I developed an Online Video Processing Guide & Policy and collaborated in updating Copyright and Donation Policies. I catalogued digital photography collections as well as digitized VHS tape collections described at item level following Dublin Core standard. I also assisted in public outreach by tabling at local festivals. Following my internship, I worked as their Digital Media Consultant reviewing metadata and wrote finding aids via LibGuides.

Film Preservation

During my internship at Vtape, I was trained in video cassette and 1⁄2 to 2 inch open film reel digitization, restoration, and preservation. While I have a speciality in photography preservation, I’ve continued to learn about film and magnetic media formats through workshops including those offered by AMIA student chapters as pictured here.

Volunteer Projects

I’ve assisted local non-profit organizations in developing and revising grant budgets and proposals for future archives based projects. I’ve also co-developed an Integrated Pest Management Policy & Procedure for The Arquives (formerly known as the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives).

Completed Workshops

This includes: introduction to digital preservation, modern digitization practices certificate, cleaning & projecting 16mm film, re-housing broken glass negatives, building clamshell boxes and how to create digital exhibitions on OMEKA.
